Overprint Varnishes (OPVs)

Formulated into water-based OPVs, fine-particle wax emulsions increase block, rub, scuff and/or water resistance—without adversely affecting gloss. To meet the varying needs of different printing processes and ink systems, numerous Michelman products are used in OPVs. Several are FDA-approved for food contact.

Micryl™ 766R: Micryl™ 766R is a water and grease resistance coating that can also function as a low cost, heat resistant gloss overprint. In such applications, Micryl™ 766R can be applied to paper (non-clay coated), film or foil, either over or under glycol or wax-free inks. This product is gluable with cold set and hot melt glues.

Micryl™ 783: Micryl™ 783 is an excellent choice when a water and grease resistant coating is required and in-line coating is not possible. It imparts useful levels of gloss and ink protection. This product is gluable with both hot melt and cold set glues.

Plate Kote™ 42S KOSHER: Plate Kote™ 42S is a food-contact compliant release coating which has been formulated solely for the unique requirements of paper plate converting. It is heat resistant, non-blocking and exhibits good gloss and product hold out.

Plate Kote™ 980 KOSHER: Plate Kote™ 980 is a food-contact compliant release coating which has been formulated solely for the unique requirements of paper plate converting. It is heat resistant, non-blocking and exhibits good gloss and product hold out.

Plate Kote™ 982 KOSHER: Plate Kote™ 982 is a food-contact compliant release coating which has been formulated solely for the unique requirements of paper plate converting. It is heat resistant, non-blocking and exhibits good gloss and product hold out.

ThermaGloss® 419: ThermaGloss® 419 is a high heat resistant overprint which imparts excellent gloss to preprinted linerboard while eliminating picking and smearing of the inks through the hot plate section of the corrugator. ThermaGloss® 419 has a reduced angle of skid. ThermaGloss® 419 is not gluable.

ThermaGloss® 420: ThermaGloss® 420 is a high heat resistant overprint which imparts excellent gloss to preprinted liner board while eliminating picking and smearing of the inks through the hot plate section of the corrugator. ThermaGloss® 420 has a reduced angle of skid. This product is not gluable.

ThermaGloss® 420A: ThermaGloss® 420A is a high heat resistant overprint which imparts excellent gloss to preprinted liner board while eliminating picking and smearing of the inks through the hot plate section of the corrugator. ThermaGloss® 420A has a reduced angle of skid. This product is not gluable.

ThermaGloss® 425: ThermaGloss® 425 is a high heat resistant overprint which imparts excellent gloss to preprinted linerboard while eliminating picking and smearing of the inks through the hot plate section of the corrugator. ThermaGloss® 425 has a reduced angle of skid. ThermaGloss® 425 is not gluable.

ThermaGloss® 426: ThermaGloss® 426 is a high heat resistant overprint which imparts excellent gloss to preprinted linerboard while eliminating picking and smearing of the inks through the hot plate section of the corrugator. ThermaGloss® 426 has a reduced angle of skid. This product performs similarly to ThermaGloss® 425 but with the added benefit of FDA compliance (see Food Contact Information). ThermaGloss® 426 is not gluable.
